Coming from Bayer Leverkusen’s youth system in the summer of 2024, where Xabi Alonso even called him up to first team training multiple times, Reno Munz began life in Furth with a few appearances of the bench as a teenager, whilst his team fought to a 13th place finish. This season however, Munz has locked down the left side of defence as his own, at just 20 years of age.
Beginning the season with a huge assist in a 3-2 home win against Dresden, Munz was doing everything in his power to become a starting player. The next few months were slow, with Munz facing setbacks keeping him out of the eleven, but once November came, the German u19 international never left the starting lineup.
The appointment of Heiko Vogel has only aided Reno Munz’s growth, as he has become an undroppable asset to his team. Whether at left back or in a three-man defence, Munz is way ahead of his years in football intelligence. In his last 5 games he has averaged 59 accurate passes per 90. Keeping it simple when necessary, but opting for forward passes whenever possible. Plenty of Greuther Furth’s attacks come down his side, through his inside passes into dangerous areas, to creative players such as Branimir Hrgota.
Contributing to many impressive performances as of late, including a 2-0 win over promotion challengers Elversberg and a 1-1 draw against table-toppers Schalke, Munz’s latest feat is an excellent team display in a last gasp 3-2 home win over Darmstadt, taking Furth from 17th up to 14th in their fight for survival.
